This cleanser is wonderfully refreshing and actually gets your skin clean, without leaving a residue of any kind behind.

If you want clear skin
this is the product for you.I'm like most of the reviewers here, adult combination skin, have used just about everything.Just give it a week, and you will understand.While moderately expensive, a little goes a long way and in the long run you save, because just like the others have stated, makeup is no longer needed.Philosophy advertises "makeup optional skin" and it truly makes this dream come true.

I LOVE THIS CLEANSER!!!
I normally am not one to write reviews on products, but this product is well worth writing one for. I am the type of girl who will stand in a store for a good while debating whether or not to buy an expensive product. I'm in college so money is pretty tight. Normally I always talk myself out of buying expensive stuff and opt for the less expensive products. I am sooo glad that I did not talk myself out of buying Philosophy's Purity.

I have used so many different cleansers. I have sensitive, acne prone, combination skin. The last product I was using, Proactiv, was incredibly expensive and was not doing much but drying my face and causing my skin to break out even more. I had to use globs of cover-up to hide my pimples. One day while at Sephora, I came upon a small bottle of Purity by the check out counter. It sounded intreging and was only $10. I have been using that product for a month now. My face has completely cleared up. I don't even need to use any cover-up or foundation anymore! I've had random people compliment on how beautiful my skin is. Little do they know what it looked like just a month ago. After seeing the results of this product, I cancelled my membership with Proactiv.

I use Purity twice a day. I don't need to use any makeup remover because Purity will gently remove everything (even waterproof mascera). I let my sister try it, and she immediatly went out and bought the largest bottle, and has discontinued proactiv as well.

I know that buying new products can be frustrating, but even if you do what I did and buy the 3.5 oz sample bottle, I can almost promise that you will never want to use a different cleaser again.

LOVE this product
I have been using this product for 2 weeks now and have noticed a real improvement in my skin.My skin is much softer and alot of the sun damage has disappeared.A lot less freckles and such....The product is easy to use and doesn't tingle too much at all.I will continue to use this product as part of my skin care routine...I love it!

Good...but it melts
This stuff works really well on lips, but its REALLY shiny and if you keep it in your pocket, you can expect it to melt and come out as a liquid later.Better than most balms though...but I'd probably recommend Rosebud lip balm instead (even though it melts too).

Wonderful Lip Balm!
This red is not fire engine red, or tomato-y orange red, as it seemingly appears on most computer monitors. It is a very sheer, light, reddish tint that reminds me of a somewhat darker red, Bonne Belle Dr. Pepper, red. Sound silly?! I know, but it's the only way I can describe it to you properly. I have never spent $10 on lip balm before, but will gladly do it again. Perfect for summer, this soft, sheer, tint is my new best friend. I wear it everywhere, with everything.

One of the Better Lip Balms
I like Philosophy products (except for the food, like chocolate, body products -- ugh) and I'm always looking for the perfect lip balm. This is a very pleasant lip balm, adds a nice sheen to the lips, quenches them and doesn't have a strong taste. If you're tired of flavor in everything this is a find. It's not gooey or gloppy, having a very good consistancy. It's not really a therapy for very dry lips but doesn't claim to be. As a lip balm it's one of the better ones.

PERFECT!
Here is the PERFECT product for aging skin, or younger skin that is especially dry.

Terrific!
This light, luminescent moisturizer is terrific when you want hydration with NO greasy feel.

Mixed with a small drop of foundation, it makes for a TINTED moisturizer, too.

be careful, can burn skin
I have been using this moisturizer for a little over a week.At first it was great, my skin looked radiant.But over the last few days, my cheeks have been burning.My boyfriend noticed that my cheeks were looking lighter, and it turns out that burning feeling, was actually lightening my skin, and burning it.My cheeks feel sunburnt, and it looks like I have a tiny sun spot. Thank God I caught it early.Hope in a Jar just became "Hope in the Trash" because that is exactly where it went.I just washed my face, and it feels ohhhh so much better.Be careful, you may want to try the sensitive skin version first, because the acid in this stuff is pretty potent!I recommend anything from DDF or just plain ol' Neutrogena. Good Luck!

A Wonderful BODY rather than FACE moisturizer
I love philosophy products in general, because I think they are effective.But I am not so impressed with hope in a jar as a facial moisturizer.I bought this product for my mother-in-law and hope in a jar dry sensitive for my mother who are in their fifties, and they love it.If you are like me, in your mid-twenties, with combination skin and visible pores, this moisturizer, though very light, may still be too rich for you. However, it is nice to put on after you've done a relatively strong treatment, such as an in-home peel, or after you've had a facial.But it is a perfect body moisturizer for me, only very expensive.

Absolutely Amazing!
I ordered some 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner and shower gels from the Philosophy web site. I received a sample of Hope in a Jar, so I tried it. I couldn't believe how amazingly light and fluffy the moisturizer was. It is truly like marshmallow fluff as another user had mentioned.

I am not one to wear make-up on a daily basis. When I put this moisturizer on my face, I swear it gave my skin an even tone and appearance. I am definitely going to order the full size to use every day.

The best exfoliant I've ever tried
This is an indulgence in all senses of the word, but i've never felt my face so soft afterwards. NEVER. I've tried all sorts of exfoliants, but this one left my skin so soft and smooth that I couldn't stop touching my face. Miracle!

A powerful product!
I bought this and was initially a little disapointed when I got it to see that it wasn't really a moisturizer, but more an acne treatment, but after using it a few times I am really impressed. Not only is my skin totally clear (after using it for two weeks) but my pores really and truly do look smaller. I ended up buying another moisturizer, just for those times when my skin is really dry, and do be prepared for the strength of this product: I had a tiny bit of peeling around my nose and I almost never peel from acne treatments.

La Mer Products in General
La Mer should, at least initially, be purchased from a trained salesperson. There is alot of fol-de-rol with this line, and you will need assistance selecting the right product and coaching in how to use it.

If you buy it from a large enough retailer of the product (Nordstrom at South Coast Plaza, for example), you will be invited to special workshops. And any retail sales person will put you on their list and call you when there are gifts-with-purchase.

I use this line, but I also use others. My only qualm with this one is that the Creme is made with mineral oil, which I personally find is not helpful to skin. (Think about it, it's a petroleum product.) This is one reason it must be "liquified" in the palm of your hand. And not a little, a lot.

You have to be willing to suspend your disbelief and accept the product's "miracle" properties that cannot be described by science. For the analytical person, there will be greater faith in lines that are continually researching, advancing their science, and doing clinical studies. For general, versus "targeted" skin care, this is a very good line.

This line requires patience and practice. If you are a slap-dash person or someone who has to rush out the door in the morning, this is probably not the line for you.

This line is geared to Women and Men of a Certain Age (and with a certain pocketbook) and more youthful skins may find other skin care products more to their needs.

love it, love it, love it.
I recently ordered a bunch of LUSH products sort of on a whim.They all smell great, but this one smells great and cleans your face like no soap I've ever seen.I use prescription acne medication, and this stuff gets the grease and make-up off my face (unlike most gentle gleansers) without drying my skin (like every other bar of soap).It smells fantastic, lasts forever, and gets your skin to that perfect level of clean.I did not notice any change in my acne, however, as noted by other reviewers.

I have pretty average skin. I'm slightly oily in the T-zone and dryer on my cheeks, and I get small blemishes once in a while.

This soap is amazing. My skin has never looked better. My pores are smaller and zits are non-existant.

You can also use it as a spot treatment. Just rub a little on your finger and apply to the spot.

Fresh Farmacy can be drying, but I use moiturizer right after I wash my face and it's not a problem.

Over 40 and still oily
This little bar works wonders on oily, break-out prone skin in the T-zone. I'm in my 40's and still get those blemishes that I'd hoped to leave behind after my 20's. One-third through first bar of this product, no more breakouts.I'm converted!! Smell is absolutely heavenly...great for removing makeup. I use it morning and night with wonderful results.Skin is clean, clear.Just lather up hands and wash face.Rinses very clean. Follow on cheeks & neck with favorite moisturizer.Thought Lush had stopped making this little jewel and I just about freaked!

GREAT cleanser
this product i tried on a whim to try a new brand and it had alot of good reviews so i figured id give it a whirl..im in my early 20s and i hardly ever and i mean EVER have a clear day..not bad but always 1-3 pesky zits..i started to use this and didnt see immediate results but the smell is HEAVENLY it really relaxed me when i washed my face before i slept...and im about half way through my first bar and it has REALLY helped me ...i am sitting here clear as a bell (im using other products in combo)but i think this is a fabulous cleanser ...great smell...leaves your skin feeling clean but not dry and since i have ecsema and i live in the great white north with horrid winters thats so important i think it gives a great variety of dif ingrediants against acne that you dont normally get which makes it worth giving a shot...and hey if you use it for a while and it doesnt work use it on your arms and shoulders and you will be calmed throughout the day or night!

This product is unreal! I have moderately bad acne for someone in her 20s. This product has done for me what no prescription or ultra expensive professional product has done.

What I do is wet my face and my hands, then I rub my bar on my hands then put it on my face and rinse. Voila - a clean feeling that also leads to a clean and clear face.

I like the idea put forth by another reviewer about on-the-spot with this. I usually use other Lush products, but I'll give that a try.

Several products in one!
I gave it a 4 out of 5 due to the fact that the other reviews were right in that it doesn't last too long on your lips. However, there are several things that are wonderful about it. this product is great for dry, chapped, or windburned skin, diaper rash, or blemishes. A tip from a make - up artist lead me to use it on my cheeks and brow bones lightly for a soft glow, as well as using it as pomade or anti frizz agent in my hair, and a brow tamer to use with your brow brush. I'm getting ready to order a couple more while I'm on here. For $5 I can carry around a tin that does several things for me in one. I think it's worth it. By the way, it doesn't take much - I've had it for 6 months!

Yeah, I agree that this product has too much hype.It is good (makes lips soft), but guess what, so is Vasoline.Really, that is all that this product is.You can buy a much larger container of Vasoline for the same effect as this product.

Don't Waste Your Money
I just had to see what all the hype was about. I had heard about this stuff for years, but I had never been able to find it, so when I was placing an order for other products, I just thought I'd see if it was available online. I just got it today. What a disappointment! I had heard that it was the best lip balm ever, and I almost ordered several of them (glad I didn't!). This salve is petroleum jelly (yeah, just Vaseline) that is slightly tinted (not enough to show even on my pale lips), and slightly scented (smells good, but not worth the price). It is not thick at all. It is too oily, and does not last.It stays on the lips just as long as Vaseline does -- and for me, that is not long. I've heard that this is also used on the face. I do not plan to try that -- I would never put Vaseline on my face, so I won't use this stuff that way, either. I was hoping for a thick, long-lasting, slightly tinted balm -- I got overpriced and over hyped pink Vaseline in a cute tin.

Anew Vs Olay....A Matter of Price
"ANEW CLINICAL Line and Wrinkle Corrector" by Avon does a good job of deep moisturizing, making your skin look and feel much smoother, somewhat firmer, and maybe even a little younger. This 1 oz jar though is way over priced. For about 20 dollars less(here at Amazon at this time), I found that the " Olay Total Effects Night Firming Cream for Face & Neck "-( 1.7 fl oz ) was just as effective and lasted much longer. I had to use more of the "Anew" to spread on my face and throat, and went through the 1 oz. in about a month. The "Olay" lasted nearly 3 months.

I would probably stay with the Anew if it wasn't so expensive, as Avon also included other little complimentary goodies in my order, that I am using, but for the price I'll stick with the Olay right now.
